6/21/26 - WiFi Land / FATHER KNOWS BEST!

Good morning, Wi-Fi land all over the world today. We greet you in the name of he who alone has fully and perfectly revealed the Father in all his character and ways. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, to whom be glory both now and forevermore. Amen.

Well, happy Father's Day to all you fathers. You know, when I was much younger, there was a very well-known television show called Father Knows Best. The program was about the Anderson family. The Andersons were a model family, and they were always able to work through and to solve whatever everyday problems they faced as the children grew up. And of course, it was the father, Jim Anderson's family leadership and counsel, that was always right on target. Hence the title, Father Knows Best.

Now, every father wishes that he could be counted upon to always know best and to have the right answer to solve every problem his wife and children face. But we know that is a rather Pollyanna view, even for a family in the 1950s when Father Knows Best was filmed. And how much the world and family dynamics have changed since the 1950s! The days of an unlocked front door and a single phone and a single TV are long gone.

Today, every foul sin that fallen man has devised is available for view or hearing in the home through a myriad number of so-called entertainment options. So, more than ever, fathers need to know best, or at least strive to know best. And so comes the word of God. For in the Bible, God has a treasure house of wisdom for fathers, and for all of us. And since fathers are called to be the protectors of the home, it is the father who is responsible for building the protective moral walls around his home.

Now, most homes today have some kind of home security system to protect from unwanted intruders. But, what about moral intruders? What about the ungodly moral intruders from movies, music, social media that seek entrance into the hearts and minds of our children? So, every father has a tremendous responsibility to morally protect his home. And this can only be done when fathers follow the principles of God's word.

Listen to God's instructions to fathers. Deuteronomy 6:6: "And these words which I command thee this day shall be in thine heart. And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou dost rise up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and shall be bound upon thy foreheads. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and upon thy gates." Amen.

You see, the word of God is the home spiritual security system. God's word keeps out moral intruders. And fathers are responsible for installing and maintaining that system in their home. This means that fathers are responsible for teaching their families the word of God. And how sad that there are so many fathers that do not study the word themselves, and so they can't teach their children the Bible.

Well, they may tell their children not to do bad things, and that's of course good. But children, as well as all of us, need a God consciousness, not just a moral code consciousness. You see, without a God consciousness, we may raise moral children, but not saved ones. Let me repeat: WITHOUT A GOD CONSCIOUSNESS, we may raise moral children, but not saved ones. Fathers need to teach their children that to do wrong is sin against God. And when a child understands that their sin is against God, they will more readily understand that they personally need the Lord Jesus as savior. Amen.

And sometimes we fathers can make this mistake. We install a spiritual security system for our home to keep out moral intruders, but we neglect to give our children the security code. In other words, a life of faith is not only living a life separate from sin at home, but living a life of faith separate from sin outside the home as well. No father wants his home to be like a prison, and he like the prison warden. One of the main reasons for instructing our children in the word of God is so that when they go out into enemy territory, they will be battle ready.

Just imagine how different professing Christian families would be if every believing father felt a real burden before the Lord to teach and to model the word of God to his family. What if fathers were consumed with a zeal to train their children for God rather than to train them for some Ivy League school education or for sports or for some high-paying future job?

We understand that there are probably only a few Jim Anderson fathers around. Fathers who know best. Fathers that get it right most of the time. These fathers live lives close to God the Father, who gets it right all the time. And then there are fathers that have never understood what being a father that knows best really looks like. If that is your case, just remember that God has called you as a father to raise men and women for God. When you accept this calling, you will become a father who knows best. In Jesus' name, amen.
