The shortest of all the psalms it is nevertheless one of the grandest. PROPHETIC ANncIPATION.-A recognised Messianic psalm it is quoted by Paul the Apostle (Rom. xv. 11) to show that God always had in store blessing for the Gentiles. Israel was endowed with blessing that tl1e nation might diffuse blessing, c£ Ps. lxvii. In millennial days Israel will joyfully summon the nations to the worship of Jehovah, who has displayed in His dealings with the nation His two great twin attributes of lovingkindness and truth (faithfulness). PERSONAL APPLICATION.-Christians delight to trace out in Israel's past history the displayed character of God. In worship we gladly anticipate the day of universal praise. How often do we come into God's presence with all praise and no prayer? ''Lovingkindness and truth (troth) are twin stars which shine out in all God's dealings with His people." "These two fair messengers appeared in yet fairer form in the person of Christ Himself," John i. 14. God is not miserly in measuring His mercies. VERSE NOTES I. Note two different words for praise. 2. "For mighty hath been His lQvingkindness toward (or, over) us." These fundamental attributes of God's character are often mentioned together in the Psalms. His grace "overcame" or prevailed over us notwithstanding all our sins. Paul unites truth with mercy, Rom. xv. 8-9. Again."Hallelujah!" Book Five. II.
